EU4 Victorum Universalis BC Server – Sicilian Update

After our last run hit a roadblock with the collapse of the Mamluk’s and the loss of the Nile, we decided to restart our multiplayer campaign for another run. With the restart comes another important update to the BC Server Mod. This one focuses on fixing a few minor bugs found during the last run, as well as re-introduces the Sicily 1215 start mission tree to allow for some uniqueness in gameplay.

The Sicilian Update

Sicily is one of the most interesting nations at the 1215 start. It’s the current Holy Roman Emperor. It has allegiances to both the Germanic kingdoms in the north as well as desires on Sicily. It’s a cultural melting pot of the Mediterranean. It is also a major power at this time in history.

Unfortunately, Sicily is under-represented in EU4 because at the 1444 start, Sicily is a rump state. In fact, it wasn’t even included in the vanilla game, and in Victorum Universalis represents just the island of Sicily, a stepping stone to explaining the eventual rise of the Kingdom of Two Sicilies but nothing more. As a result, the BC Server has attempted to make this a more interesting start by giving it some historical context for the decisions being made at the 1215 timeline. This starts with the mission tree, which still needs a lot of improvement but offers at least some guidance to the player on what to be thinking when you play them.

Other Updates

The following updates have also been made to the BC Server start. The biggest among them is the move of the Treaty of Benavente to a triggered event rather than a moderator controlled event. This was made at the request of our Castilian player in the last run.

  • Modified the cost for provincial peace. This is to fix an issue where the AI will intentionally cause itself to enter a coalition where better options are available to it.
  • Added Defensive March back into the game. VU apparently removed this option for some reason, so adding it back in.
  • Updated the Treaty of Benavente to include opinion modifiers for the loser in the agreement.
  • Updated the “Swear Fealty” peace out option to use regular Vassal instead of medieval vassal, since Medieval Vassal was removed from VU for some reason.
  • Created a copy of the Discover World event that can be fired manually by a moderator in cases where it doesn’t fire automatically.
  • Updated the ai_nation modifier to remove the supply limit modifier bug.
    • NOTE: VU effectively removed this game mechanic from the game, we are adding it back in since many of the events in-game rely on it’s existence. Plus it was allowing armies that were far too large for the time period.
  • Updated the Hundred Years War modifier to allow France faster recovery of manpower during the Hundred Years War
  • Updated the Crusader modifier to allow for 50% more force limit while on crusade.
  • Increased the morale bonus Scotland gets while fighting England during the War of Scottish Succession
  • Added the missing vassal states into the Almohad domain. This is a necessary step to make the Almorovid event fire correctly.
  • Added in cores for the Crusader States at the start of the game, since they would still have cores in 1215.
  • Added events to ensure Crusader States stay Christian.
  • Updated provinces where Genoa would eventually have cores. This is necessary to ensure their expansion is done in the right order.
  • Updated to Form Morocco Event to fire at the correct time and conditions, instead of at game start.
  • Updated the Form Kingdom of Two Sicilies event to fire in the right conditions, including making sure there are in fact Two capitals for Sicily.
  • Updated name change events from Ayyubids to Mamluks.
  • Added an event to properly account for the exile of the last Ayyubid ruler to Syria.
  • Updated the event that re-introduces Qara Qoyunlu as a releasable country.
  • Updated the Abbasid Caliphate to their correct starting position.
  • PLAYER REQUEST: Allow formation of the Chess Empire.
  • The Mend the Schism of Christianity event can now be fired by both Catholic and Orthodox leaders.
  • Modified the Vassal State to recognize Muslim vassal options as well.
  • Updated Bishopric decisions to only work for Catholic nations, and alternative events for other nations.
  • Updated Mythical Locations event to prevent a case where it can show up multiple times.
  • Added an event for the Almohads to allow the Retreat from Iberia chain to begin. This was previously triggered by a moderator.
  • Added the Treaty of Benavente event as a triggered event to the game. This was previously triggered by a moderator.
  • Added the Rise of the Mamluk’s event as a triggered event to the game. This was previously triggered by a moderator.
  • Renamed Rise of Nobility event and added an option where players can provide money instead of stability to stave off the rise of a new noble house.
  • Added additional information to the Crusader States background information.
