Afghanistan is a landlocked country at the crossroads of Central and South Asia. It is bordered by Pakistan to the east and south, Iran to the west, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to the north, and Tajikistan and China to the northeast. Occupying 652,864 square kilometers (252,072 sq mi), the country is predominately mountainous with plains in the north and southwest. It is inhabited by 31.4 million people as of 2020, composed mostly of ethnic Pashtuns, Tajiks, Hazaras, and Uzbeks. Kabul serves as its capital and largest city.
For almost 20 years, Afghanistan was a continuous battleground for armies and insurgents. In 2020, a new chapter emerged as the Doha Agreement promised to re-shape the future of the conflict. This map represents the state of Afghanistan as it appears in March 1, 2021. Efficiency levels for all cities are based on their real-world political influence and strategic value. The map uses roughly 24,000 tiles to represent 650k square km of territory with the main border crossings into neighboring countries designated along the border. The map was generated with the Modern Units Database in mind and as a result may require some slight modifications to work correctly with the default unit set.
As usual, I’ve uploaded the map to EDIBLE or download it directly here. I also plan to upload the map to the in-game database, but I may have to modify that version to work with the default unit set. This map is also the first step in ultimately creating a full-blown scenario using MUD as someone on the Steam forum has suggested. I will need some time before I am ready to post that version as there is a lot of data to sift through, and the changing real-world situation is making this more challenging.
