Empire Deluxe

Empire Deluxe

Empire was one of the first PC strategy games ever created.  The 1993 version of this chess-like simulation, called Empire Deluxe, was one of the greatest influences of my future gaming career and decision to become a software developer.  In fact, many of the components in World’s of Nation have a tie back to this game.  Unfortunately, New World Computing and later 3DO, went defunct and game lapsed into abandonment.  Newer versions of the game are more re-writes than a continuation of the series, leaving most modern versions incompatible with the original game.

Nonetheless, I do own a library of content for this game, as well as utilities to help make it playable on modern machines.   It is still played somewhat regularly due to its portability through DOS emulators, so I update my files every now and then.

Map Files

Below lists some of the maps and scenarios I have collected or created over time.  Click the maps’ title to download.  Because the files use their original extensions you may encounter firewall or download issues.  Also, the files are copyright of their creator, so it’s advised that these are not published under another name.

The Reyskel Cays

This map is based on the Ninth World game created in 2016.  It’s sparse cities and inconvenient choke-points make it a challenging map for those who like to armor rush.  In play testing, the map favors players who have strong air-force tactics and zone of control.

  • Map supports four starting points at the four corners of the world.  Optionally, remove these if you want to start within the world itself.

Adallia of Everlandia Westre

This map is based on the Nation States map for Everlandia Westre in 2016.  The continent is split into ten nations built from the ruins of a previously ultra-theocratic empire that fell apart in a cataclysm.  The map features heavy terrain features that favor infantry and powerful cities scattered in convenient locations.  Alternately, the map can be put into map wrapping mode to make game play more interesting.

  • Map supports four starting points at the four corners of the world.  Optionally, remove these if you want to start within the world itself.
  • The tournament version of this map is included in the download file.

The Meer Sea

This map is based on the 2018 Besaren campaign in the Meer Sea.  Two continents surround the Meer Sea.  At its epicenter is the council seat at Negrada where the east and south meet annually to assure peace between the great houses.  The western world is heavily influenced by European (specifically Germanic) ancestry while the eastern world is influenced by Asian (specifically Japanese) ancestry.  In the campaign map where you lead one of the fallen houses, you start on an island with varying, often low, efficiency and how you grow your army will depend on how you achieve victory.

  • Map supports six starting points around the Meer sea.  Starting city efficiency is based on play testing results from the tabletop version of this map.
  • The tournament version of this map is included in the download file.

Extensions / Utilities

  • DOS Box – Utility allows you to play Empire Deluxe in windowed mode, as well as improved handling.  Link will take you to the Dosbox homepage.
